Search engine use explodes in December
Google remains the market giant but Microsoft Bing, China's Baidu make year-end gains
People were doing a whole lot more online searching last month, and they were still largely using the Google engine to do it.
A comScore, Inc. study released late last week showed that 46% more online searches were made worldwide last month than in December, 2008. In all, the Web tracking firm said, people 15 and older conducted 131 billion searches just in December, or an average of 4 billion searches a day, 175 million per hour, and 29 million per minute.
"The global search market continues to grow at an extraordinary rate, with both highly developed and emerging markets contributing to the strong growth worldwide," said Jack Flanagan, comScore executive vice president, in a statement. "Search is clearly becoming a more ubiquitous behavior among Internet users that drives navigation not only directly from search engines but also within sites and across networks."
ComScore also noted that the online users in the United States conduct more searches than people anywhere else in the world. Americans accounted for 22.7 billion searches, or approximately 17% of all worldwide searches, last month.
"Forty-six percent year-to-year growth in search is certainly a big number, but not a shockingly big number," said Dan Olds, an analyst with Gabriel Consulting Group. "We know that search is the most heavily used Web mechanism and, with people conducting more and more of their personal business on the Web, it's natural that Web search is growing at a high rate. Factor in the search growth in countries where consumers are just now getting wide access to both computing and broadband, and it's easier to see how search grew at a nearly 50% clip from 2008 to 2009."
Search giant Google lived up to its reputation in 2009, accounting for 66.8%, or 87.8 billion, of all searches last month, according to comScore. Of the 131 billion searches conducted last month, 87.8 billion of them were done on Google's site. The Web tracker also noted that Google sites achieved a 58% increase in search query volume over the past year.
Yahoo came in second with 9.4 billion searches, which was an increase of 13%. Chinese search engine Baidu accounted for 8.5 billion searches, up 7% over the year-earlier period.
Microsoft's Bing, though, showed great gains. According to comScore, eight-month-old Bing was used for 4.1 billion searches, or 70% more than its predecessor LiveSearch was used for last December.
"Microsoft's Bing grew at a 70% rate, but that's from a pretty small base," said Olds. "According to the research, Microsoft search sites are creeping up on Google, but are still far behind in total use. Yahoo fares better, but had a lower growth rate. Of course, coupling Yahoo's larger user base with the Microsoft search growth rate in order to take on Google is the goal of the Yahoo/MS partnership."
Yandex, a Russian search engine, showed the largest gains in the markets, growing by 91% to 1.9 billion searches.

Fake Google search engine emerges in China
A new search engine called Goojje highlights why Google may leave China.
January 28, 2010, 01:26 PM —
In addition to a name that sounds like Google, the Goojje search engine copies Google's logo. See for yourself: goojje.com
Although Goojje appears to be trying to cash in on Google's branding, a closer look shows that it may in fact be something of a tribute to Google. Goojje sounds like the Chinese word for "big sister." A message on the Goojje site reads "Sister was very happy when brother gave up the thought of leaving and stayed for sister." The site was reportedly created by a female college student in China.
The site may want Google to stay, but its very existence shows why Google may want to go. The second sentence of Google's now-famous blog post says it all: "we detected a highly sophisticated and targeted attack on our corporate infrastructure originating from China that resulted in the theft of intellectual property from Google."
The press, pundits and public appear to believe that Google's troubles with China stem primarily from censorship or hacking. The truth is that Google is mainly concerned with the theft of intellectual property. When you're a search engine, intellectual property is the whole product.
The Goojje search engine copies the easy stuff -- the logo and name. Google's real concern is more likely the theft of its proprietary algorithms, source code and other secrets.
As the blogger formerly known as the Fake Steve Jobs pointed out in a recent missive, "How can you do business in China if everyone you hire is going to steal from you?" He's referring to reports that spies within Google's China staff provided help or information to the hackers.
Google denies that employees were involved in the hacking they reported. But the larger issue is that a pervasive culture of aggressive, insidious intellectual property theft exists in China, aided and abetted by the government.
The Goojje site is pretty harmless. All can see the logo and branding were copied or "inspired" by Google's. The real risk is when Baidu or some other search engines in China end up using stolen code from Google to compete against Google in the marketplace, and when the government of China uses stolen information and illegal access to crack down on critics of the Chinese government and suppress human rights.
Forget about big sister. It's Big Brother we should all be concerned about.
Pihak Google sendiri belum berkomentar banyak.
(*/AP/OL-7))
Facebook Bentuk Dewan Penangkal Predator Seks
Maka tak heran jika pihak Facebook berupaya memperketat keamanan situs. ( fyk / faw )

Talk about golf, Golf Platzreife. actually very nice course for a very happy with the exercise of this one.
In some people were still sleeping soundly, there was a wake in the morning, even had the road at dawn exercise. No matter, whether the summer monsoon, or winter, even snow, it was still done. Why? First, because it is his love of the sport, do not be a burden at any time. Second, realize very well that health is expensive and must be kept and maintained. Third, any expensive sport, yet when compared with how healthy we are. , With such considerations, any sport, including golf is not an expensive sport. Actually, expensive things, depending on how we react.
There are some people who say that playing golf is not a sport. This is because they look just hitting golf balls. I am more interested in playing golf. I could feel the minimal hitting the ball or batting practice.
From some of my favorite sports, golf is the sport I most enjoy doing, and I bought all the golf equipment in Golfshop. although initially did not like. turns out, many who initially did not like, even eventually fall in love. That is also what happened to me, initially did not like. and fruitful so love. if you have love, do not know heat, cold, or rain, even snow nor ignored. There, just fun in a fun relaxed atmosphere. That's the romance behind the golf game.
For a beginner like me maybe a little tips can help you to play golf in comfort. The first which I will share is your nail clippers. I have short nails but can still be shortened. wrapped up golf fairly tortured with long nails. This is because the meat can be pierced palms. My other suggestion to bring to avoid gloves for your hands. Usually golf gloves for left hand only. www.golfakademie.com for more information
